October 2011 Meeting Minutes
QBTB held the meeting on Oct. 26 at 7pm. There was a pretty good turnout of members and guests of about 40.The program presented by Nancy Keay was fascinating. She has a large body of professional work that she showed both with actual pieces and with delightful photos. Many of her quilts are designed for use in churches as paraments, banners, and priestly stoles and vestments. It was fun hearing how she works--very creatively and mostly without patterns. She also told us about her experiments with glue and printing.
Don't forget to participate in the challenge for the December meeting.
The challenge is: "Christmas Log Cabin" and can be interpreted in any way. The idea is to be creative and to perhaps try some new technique or idea. There will be prizes!
Mary Voigt sent out the new roster and will likely be sending an updated one soon as more people have joined and there were a couple of corrections. If you didn't get the first one, look in your spam folder and/or send her an email at: MaryDVoigt@gmail.com
We all had a fine time at the Fall Retreat. Mardell Buffington and
Sharon Maes ran a fun camp. The Fall Retreat 2012 will be Oct 11-14.
First payment and sign ups will be in January or February. Price not yet determined. Last one was $280 total. Mardell and Shar will be in charge again. These events are highlights of the year for me.
The November meeting will be on Nov 16 (a week early due to holidays).
Same with December--mark your calendar with Dec 14.
Two bazaars are set up. One at Tacoma General on Nov 10 and 11. Also we'll be at the Meeker Holiday Bazaar on Sat Nov 19. We will be selling raffle tickets and some volunteers are needed. Contact Jackie Anderson at: rowermom3@hotmail.com if you can help out.
Don't forget the Sneak Peak on Sunday Oct 30 from 12 to 3pm at Mardell's Club house. Your chance to snag some of the best handmade items before they are sold to the public.
Spring Retreat 2012 is set for April 13-15. Final payment due in December.
We added 7 new or returning members making the total 57 for the year so far.
Delores Slingerland, raffle chair, reported $604 sold so far with $380 outstanding. Be sure to bring in the money and stubs as the drawing is in December.
Mary Bradshaw talked briefly about Wreathes across America for veterans and Gold Star mothers of vets killed in action.
Show and Tell was pretty exciting with prize winners and retreat projects.
Marcia Cramer showed the blocks all assembled from her retreat quilt--a twin size for grandson getting a big bed.
Norma Jean showed her quilt that won first place at the Fair.
Pat Ditter had a beautiful green quilt quilted by her after learning in Norma Jean's class.
Becky Cunningham showed her 2001 shop hop quilt--"Welcome to our House".
Jan Jansen showed her gorgeous pink top made mostly at the retreat.
Barbara Kadden showed a nice table runner done for a friend's beach house.
Mary Bradshaw had some pastel blocks she didn't like very much, so she dyed them jewel tones and they are beautiful.
Delores Slingerland showed her prize winning pink and green quilt.
Rose Flannigan did some fancy quilting on it.
Dorothy Loveless put together a wall hanging of trees that she assembled at retreat.
Kim Killen showed her large quilt of small squares done at retreat.
Susan Harmon modeled her jacket done at retreat--very attractive in fall themed batiks.
Respectfully submitted,
Marcia Cramer, Secretary
